EP 3 | Barely Alive or Bearly Dying?

Ice Bear (00:02)
Do we confess? I think we should confess. Let's clear the air. This is not our first time recording this episode, guys. We gave this the old college try yesterday, and it was...

Grizz (00:04)
think we need to confess. I think we should confess sadly.

this app.

Depressing?

Ice Bear (00:19)
Not amusing. Your taste buds were assaulted.

Grizz (00:26)
They were assaulted terribly. See, it was all around, it was all around bad. It also kind of made us liars because we had a crazy discovery and it went away.

Ice Bear (00:38)
We sure did.

It was the opening of the episode. We had learned, thanks to our good friend Leo over at Brave's AI headquarters, just roaming around being the glorious lion it is. And we were talking about, you know, who won the last World Series? Because we're just shooting the shit about sports. And sure enough, that thing came up with the 2025 World Series champion, Milwaukee Brewers.

which didn't make sense to either of us. We didn't remember that. So we did a little fact checking. Sure enough, that game hasn't even happened yet. So just mark your calendars this year, guys. If the Milwaukee Brewers win, we are in a simulation. And or Brave is so powerful, they can create the winner of the World Series.

Grizz (01:26)
I'm kind of hoping the latter to be honest because here's the thing, we just checked again today for continuity sake.

Ice Bear (01:30)
that would be really cool.

Already corrected, different timeline.

Grizz (01:42)
So it's either we shifted because we learned the truth or I think it's CIA.

Ice Bear (01:50)
my god. It's because we mentioned Trevor the other episode. They're already... we're already on the bad list. We're the naughty boy bears.

Grizz (01:51)
of the same.

They got put on the list. MK Ultra.

Naughty boy bear sounds like a great band name now So we're just gonna keep this trucking along because we don't want to get in a depressed loop like last time So we're just gonna jump right in. I think I think that's good idea, right?

Ice Bear (02:06)
That is a good band name.

I think it seems

appropriate and we've promised the people two episodes in a row now that we're gonna keep it nice and tidy and two in a row now we were a feature-length film. you remember, all right, I'm gonna already just fuck this up and make this take longer than it has to. Do you remember in like class when you'd have like a three to five minute presentation and it felt like the fucking world was ending because you had to give a three minute presentation?

Grizz (02:25)
We failed.

Let's do it. Let's go. Let's go.

Yes, and then like you're just watching the clock and you're thinking you're stalling and shit and it's been a minute and a half

Ice Bear (02:46)
right.

Yeah, you feel like I've I must have been talking for five years and your teachers like you were up there for 42 seconds like go back up and say something else.

Grizz (02:59)
Yeah, that was actually really, really bad. See, I was really terrible with like orating and just being in front of people. It's like, like, speaking. nice. I like it. Just keep it going. I like that. I was terrible with orating and being in front of people.

Ice Bear (03:10)
you

Please continue.

Grizz (03:18)
best of good stuff now so it was absolutely horrible I'm talking about like I'd stand there and I would talk like like this and I would try to put some bass in my voice and then I would be like and then it was really bad I would also get the jitters and I'd get the sweats I get the clammy sweats wasn't good

Ice Bear (03:39)
Okay,

I can do you one better. The origin of my bear oration ability comes from fifth grade. When I had a presentation I was so nervous about. got a little tummy rumbling. I realized, shit, I'm gonna pitch my cookies. I'm gonna throw up everywhere. And I tried to run to the bathroom, which was like immediately outside of the class very close by.

didn't make it, up all over the hallway. And you know, that's a sensitive age, easy time to get embarrassed. So I just went and hid in the bathroom and pretended like I was still throwing up, but I wasn't, like I'd already thrown it all up. And my like best friend came over and like gave me a sweater, like cleaned myself up, it was very sweet of him. And then the wood chip fairy came out and like wood chipped the, all the puke off the floor. So anyway.

Grizz (04:11)
Very true.

So yeah, my school

was cat litter. It wasn't wood chips. It was cat litter for us.

Ice Bear (04:35)
Mmm,

God bless Maryland wood chips. We're a sophisticated bunch there.

Grizz (04:40)
To be to be to you know, you know, it's kind of not embarrassing, but kind of embarrassing. One of my I had two class presentations in fifth grade. One was on Komodo Dragons and the other one was on Maryland. We had all had to do states and I got put with Maryland.

Ice Bear (04:52)
you

That is fascinating. I like it. I think I had to do one on Komodo Dragons too. And I remember that they are shockingly fast for a giant lizard.

Grizz (05:07)
and they're run in cliques They go deep. mean, not like all the time, but they will pull up in a pack.

Ice Bear (05:10)
Do they?

Are

we talking like Komodo Clan? Like full on like Yakuza style?

Grizz (05:19)
Yeah, I don't know exactly how big the clans are.

I think more Yakuza style.

Ice Bear (05:24)
I love this. All right, well, you're looking at that. So the other thing that came of this is due to that sheer embarrassment, anytime I ever had a speech from then all the way through like graduating university, I would practice speeches in front of the mirror like a fucking psychopath. Like I would say it like 17 times and I'd like hyper analyze my facial expressions until I was like, all right, nothing can possibly go wrong.

Grizz (05:54)
That's actually really fair. That's a good one.

Ice Bear (05:54)
and that's it's the only

way I wouldn't throw up because I was just like all right this just like there's nothing I haven't thought of all all routes are accounted for take me on beer one whenever you're done

Grizz (06:02)
Yeah. That's smart.

Yeah, so Komodo dragons are individualistic creatures, but they do tend to hunt in packs. So if you see a pack of Komodo dragons, probably not for long.

Ice Bear (06:21)
Yeah, that's very true. This is the first and last time you've seen a pack of Komodo dragons.

Grizz (06:22)
Right.

Yeah.

So, trucking this, keeping this pushing. I have a beer that used to be my daily. Now, full transparency here, because we're transparency bears. I had this last night, but it got really warm and it was absolutely devastatingly bad. And it made me, it made me question myself because I was like, I cannot, I cannot be, it's a beautiful, that's a beautiful.

Ice Bear (06:45)
You looked miserable.

Grizz (06:54)
Liquid holder you have there.

This used to be my daily for, I don't know, fucking a couple years. It is a Dallas, Texas based brewery called Four Corners. Anybody that knows them, they know them from their branding. They're all like Loteria branded. So all their beers have like Loteria cards and they're awesome. They're fucking great. Their brewery is super cool. It's like a picnic table kind of thing, food truck style stuff. It's fucking awesome. Right?

This one right here, they used to have a full open top where the whole can would come off. It was my fucking favorite. That's probably a large part while of my daily when they switched to regulars. I stopped. Then they changed branding since the last time I used to have them. And so I decided to get them again. This is El Chingon IPA, which is partly the reason why I got it the first time it's brewed in Texas born Chingon.

Ice Bear (07:57)
I sincerely hope you enjoy it more this time around.

Grizz (07:59)
I'll see this I see I my pregame was having him in the freezer for about 30 to 40 minutes prior so I'm this IPA is brewed with a chingo blend of seven "C" hops and bounce with the mighty backbone of Munich malt again like yesterday tragedy happened there there's a movie about it Órale crank up the chingon factor this is a 7.3

Ice Bear (08:05)
wise choice yet you can't do the warm here

Grizz (08:28)
ABV and from what I remember yesterday pretty pretty bitter

Ice Bear (08:38)
sir. right. Clink it, drink it.

Grizz (08:43)
Clink it and drink it.

Ice Bear (08:50)
that's good. Okay. So mine good, sir, is a West Coast style IPA. The beer that started the craft brewing revolution strong with a big punch from fragrant, bitter hops. Surprisingly easy to drink great with food and even better with friends. If you have any I do your one you're right there. And and the dear listeners are also part of that compatriot hoard.

All right, this is Instigator and I love the art. This is a good one.

Grizz (09:26)
wow, that is actually really fucking cool.

Ice Bear (09:28)
Very aggressive old man ready to instigate and he kind of has the same shitty hairline I do

Grizz (09:34)
It reminds me of ,uhhhh, Jack Nicholson in anger management. I don't know why that put me back to that, but it did.

Ice Bear (09:42)
yeah,

I can see that. I can see that a little bit.

But I just, I'm a sucker for any, like, I don't know what you even call this, this style of coloring, but when you have just like coloring you don't expect in art, it's always, always a treat.

Grizz (10:01)
That is fair.

was probably the politest burp I've ever done. No, this one is significantly better when it's cold, but still unbelievably mid. I had terrible fucking taste buds apparently years ago.

Ice Bear (10:19)
Well, this was the other thing that we had kind of talked about last night, but it just took us way too long to get to the point. So we can kind of touch base on it again. We were talking about fruit by the foot. Cause that was one thing that I feel like I really enjoyed as a "yout"

Grizz (10:37)
was it? know we talked about fruit by the foot but we're talking about specifically black cherry warheads that's what we were talking about

Ice Bear (10:44)
Yes. How

soon the memory fades away when the beers are frolicking and the bears are drinking? No, the other way around. Bears frolicking, beers drinking. There we go. That's English. Anyway, Black Cherry Warheads. Yes. They just like the sour on them at the time felt punishing. You felt like just such a champion if you could sit through 10, 15 seconds of that. And now going back, it's like, you know.

It's a little bit sour.

Grizz (11:15)
Yeah, it makes you drool a little bit. Yeah, for me, like they have a distinct sour, it has a very distinct sour, but like I said yesterday though, it's really the candy flavor after like it's very mild when I remember it being extremely vibrant. And I think, I think we landed in the same place that I think our taste buds are just dying and we're just, and we're decaying.

Ice Bear (11:17)
That's a bit...

Yeah.

Yeah, I see why this was so depressing, because we were realizing it for

the first time. We're just like, do your knees hurt? Does your back hurt? Are we getting old very fast? So yeah. But luckily, now we've had time to let that sink in. Yeah, it's washed over us already, and we're ready to face it.

Grizz (11:52)
accepted you know

It's beautiful. It's like that giraffe in - you remember Robot Chicken?

Ice Bear (12:02)
Mm. Peak Yes, absolutely. I remember Robot Chicken.

Grizz (12:05)
Do remember the giraffe

when it goes into a fucking quicksand pit and it's going through the seven stages of grief or whatever when it's dying?

Ice Bear (12:12)
No, I don't.

But I love the concept. it, what's his name? Seth Green? Was he the giraffe? Okay.

Grizz (12:17)
Yeah, yeah,

it was. It was fucking phenomenal. Like actually, if anything, I'm going to do this. Like keep this talking. I'm going to bring it up. It's very quick. So I think like it's not going to be an issue for us to do it. So just talk while I pull it up.

Ice Bear (12:30)
Okay. So,

all right, so while you're looking that up, I don't know why this is making me think of it. Because I'm in full blown like, ooh, squirrel mode today. So other topic totally unrelated. The dudes from workaholic, I think they have a podcast either that I just saw them talking for some reason.

And the one guy was talking about a new way to blow your nose. And let me tell you, this is the most effective thing I've ever done in my life. So the trick is, rather than just clogging like one nostril, you clog the nostril and the ear on the same side and blow. And I shit you not, you're going to get boogabugs from like behind your brain. Like it was creating stuff in my nose I didn't know was in there. And it just launches it out with extreme force.

Grizz (13:18)
I have never heard that in my entire life.

Ice Bear (13:20)
Try it. Like even if

your nose is clear right now, try it next time you're outside and it's just gonna launch all the demons out of you.

Grizz (13:28)
That is very, very interesting, because yeah, I've never in my life heard that. Boom. It's like a Neti pot

Ice Bear (13:34)
Two bears, two bears, health tips.

Yes, but better because it's quick and you don't have to buy a neti pot

Grizz (13:44)
Apparently I heard that was bad from House because I take all my medical device from House and apparently that's how they got this person got a crazy disease, but That being said we're gonna go hard into hard into this we have to you have to see this Robot chicken; also share tab; audio share. All right, you ready for this? Can we see this?

Ice Bear (14:05)
I can

see it and it's a beautiful giraffe.

Grizz (14:09)
Let's go. Ready? Three, two, one,

It's probably not even quicksand. I'm gonna have a good laugh about this tonight with the guys.

This is just perfect. Stupid Quicksand, stupid jungle. to bite someone in face, mother f***er.

You

You take out

fuck all of this one

You

I bet heaven has all the tender leaves I can eat and everyone gets their own slurging machine. Yeah Take me sweet death. I await your loving embrace

think I hit the bottom.

Ice Bear (15:42)
no...

No

Grizz (15:51)
Yeah, so...

Ice Bear (15:55)
Oh, that's magic. Now the real question is, do we have to write Seth a nicely worded note and say, hey, can we have the rights to this for 20 seconds? When does parody law kick in?

Grizz (15:58)
It

I think since

I said something and we laughed, we're good. Maybe. Who knows? We'll find out.

Ice Bear (16:12)
As long as we

did our own little sound add-on after, it's fine.

Grizz (16:17)
or during maybe who knows we'll find out.

Ice Bear (16:19)
We'll find out. They just pull the whole episode. That's fine. We'll work around it. I can't wait for the cease and desist from whoever the fuck owns Adult Swim.

Grizz (16:21)
Visit.

Bears have never been good at law. kind of our thing.

Unilever now.

Ice Bear (16:34)
You

Grizz (16:37)
So what does the we actually were talking about was?

Ice Bear (16:38)
You

Grizz (16:47)
So, Grizz was very much a fan of the 4Chain era days and we started talking about the good things about 4Chain and Green Text came about. So, we suggested, why don't we just bring a couple of Green Texts on for us to just laugh at or we feel sad about or just share it with listeners that maybe aren't hip to the jive.

Ice Bear (16:57)
Mm-hmm.

god, those poor people. It's gonna be a time.

Grizz (17:15)
So,

so.

I challenged.

my dear brother bear to pick the best or funniest green text for the week and the most messed up. And I said I would do the same. And so I came with mine. I did my homework.

Ice Bear (17:39)
Can I ask you something really quick? In the process of doing your homework, as I also did, was it deeply disturbing?

Grizz (17:41)
Yeah.

not again i used to i used to peruse 4chan back in like the /b and /pol days so like not really yeah so b was like yeah exactly and i was like /pol was one of my favorites and then like /b is you know /b's hit and miss sometimes it's like like loli hell and the other time it's not so you know

Ice Bear (17:58)
Were those the boards? Those are the worst boards.

All right.

All right.

You're ready for my boards. Can you guess? Can you guess what my top three would be?

I feel like once you know you're going to be like that absolutely tracks, but up until that you're not going to have any chance. Take a stab just for lulz.

Grizz (18:25)
/ /anamorph

Ice Bear (18:30)
Is that a board? I just gonna say I didn't know that was a board. Okay, so one of them was /VP I was always looking for my Pokemon leaks, which to this day, I don't think Incineroar is real. Like there's no way Incineroar is real. That's fake. It's gonna be a better tiger.

Grizz (18:31)
No, it's not.

Slash A.

Okay, yeah.

So, think Litten's extremely mid he's, he's almost he's almost amazing. Like, I don't know, it's just a long sad face. I'm like, because you were like almost perfect. But like you made your face still too doofy and sad. Like I Yeah, yeah, no, Litten's fucking cool. I just think they they they they fixed their like, gaff with Sprigatito in my opinion.

Ice Bear (19:05)
It was just, it was a tiger, man. loved it so much. I was so excited.

Sprigatito great.

Grizz (19:20)
Yeah, I fucking love that little thing. I didn't pick her, I fucking love that little thing. yeah, and then Incineroar, again, Incineroar is cool. Awesome on Smash, but like.

Goddamn.

Ice Bear (19:35)
If you held your ear in your nostril, you wouldn't

have any of those boog-boogs in there.

Grizz (19:39)
shit, that's true. God damn, that hurt. It's spring change.

Ice Bear (19:45)
no, stop dying. Stop. You're not allowed to die. No one wants to hear me talk by myself. Okay.

Grizz (19:47)
You

That's fair. I think,

think that's not true though. You got silky pipes, but it's a nervous cool, but I just, you know, like very, very like "Gen 1er" but like I do. I'm not a fan of like the bipedal. I don't mind if they're bipedal. I just don't like the like humanistic type of like, right. So like

Ice Bear (20:13)
Same, absolutely the same. prefer

the animals to stay, just let them be animals. It's okay.

Grizz (20:18)
Yeah, so

yeah, like I don't mind if they're bipedal like a fucking blast always for Charizard or something But like I don't want you to be like humanoid like I love sword and shield I think it was one of the best trends that came out as far as like gameplay but like dude and tell you I'm fucking a joke it's just Johnny Depp Blizzard and then like fucking What the fuck's that? in this like I'm really boom school

Ice Bear (20:28)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Boom.

Grizz (20:41)
But then it's like a fucking, is it a messy rabbit? It was like a messy rabbit. Like it's just fucking a soccer player, which yeah, cool. know, Britain and stuff and all that good, but you know.

Ice Bear (20:44)
What think of Scorebunny?

Yeah, score buddy.

Like,

I get what they were going for. I do. But the thing is, it's very evident to me that somewhere around Gen... Four, all of the artists are clearly furries.

Grizz (20:57)
Yeah.

Yeah, it's very it's a lot of it's very bait to be like, and

Ice Bear (21:14)
It's clearly

they're like, all right, we're going to give you the layup. They're just given the here you go alley-oop to all the independent artists that want to just make rule 34 nonsense.

Grizz (21:25)
Yeah, basically. Yeah, it's one of those things. yeah, that's the biggest thing. So before we go too far off. All right, so VP and then what else? Is that your only one?

Ice Bear (21:39)
no, no, no. My gateway board was actually fit because that's who you want to get fitness advice from. 100%.

Grizz (21:45)
These are some

of the fit green texts. my fucking god our works of art Like I think we can actually just do a whole episode on fit green text. It's so fucking good

Ice Bear (21:54)
Probably,

There were some gems in there. And also, it was amazing because as someone that was transitioning from running track in college, at a competitive level, to weightlifting and being very bad at it, I fell for a lot of nonsense on there. was like, shit, should I immediately be able to overhead press 135, or I'm not a real man? That must be accurate. I'm not a real man.

I should be able to bench press my body weight like day one. So yeah.

Grizz (22:28)
That's

fair. remember being in high school and like first benching and like

I remember being at like a plate and a plate and a plate and a 10 and like being pinned

and feel it. think so. I think so. I feel like my lungs are about to pop out honestly. cuz like again spring full effect Texas

Ice Bear (22:47)
I can't believe this is the episode where you're gonna die on camera. This is so awkward.

I need you to take your beer with a giant

swig of what you call it, Benadryl. Get one of Dem Dare allergy proofers.

Grizz (23:18)
Walgreens out allergy relief for going straight to the straight straight to the dome.

Ice Bear (23:21)
Perfect. That is suitable.

Good man. There's probably like a don't drink with alcohol label right on it.

Grizz (23:31)
We'll find out.

Ice Bear (23:33)
Remember all your health advice should come from us. and, and so last and final board and my favorite, and the only one that I will still look at occasionally to this day is X. Cause I, I love my paranormal nonsense. love, because the thing is I have such a hard time figuring out, is it a bot? Is it someone that's like deeply schizophrenic or is it creative writing?

Grizz (23:37)
And only us. Anyway.

yeah, X is great.

Ice Bear (24:03)
Or is it someone that's really onto something? Because every now and again, there's like, is that real?

Grizz (24:03)
Yeah. Yeah, I some really good ones.

Because I have so like for me, you know, I grew up, growing up in like, like, like Mexican household superstitious as fuck, like all older generations. And only that like, you know, there's just stories from like my great grandmother and then like, my great grandmother, my great aunt's on.

my mom's side where like they don't know each other. Once from Mexico, once from like Texas and West Texas. And yet they like line up and I'm like, that's a weird. So I usually fall out of like a thing of like, you know, I don't necessarily believe it, but my choice, I'm not going to lie. Driving in the middle of the night through Arizona, Mexico desert and New Mexico deserts. I'm not look, I'm not looking through the sides of them. I'm not looking through my side windows. I'm not, I'm straight.

Ice Bear (24:55)
Skinwalkers.

Grizz (25:01)
Cause I'm looking in the thing and I see little hills of sand and the moon going down and it's just like glowing in this like blue hue. I'm like, you know what? I don't need to see a skinwalker if they're real. I'm just going to pin him to the road. don't necessarily completely believe in them. I'm like 96 % that they're not real, but that 4 % I'm like, I'm not going to chance it. You know? Like why?

Ice Bear (25:15)
That's totally fair.

Yeah, absolutely.

Same reason I'm not gonna ever just like fuck around in the woods in Appalachia. Nope. No thanks. When you were touring, did you ever make it through like Utah? Like in the salt flats? Like Bonneville?

Grizz (25:37)
So I've been, I've

been to Utah, but I've never like actually spent actual time in the South flats. I've been like trying to convince the tiger about going to Utah for the salt flats specifically.

Ice Bear (25:49)
The reason I ask is because that's a really weird one to drive through. It's weird during the day because it looks like, is this a lake? What the fuck's going on? Even in the night to me, because I went on a really clear night and it reflects in a weird way too.

Grizz (25:53)
Yeah, I can imagine.

I've only yeah, I've only minutes of the night like so like

Yeah, but to me, like it does. But like, I mean, have you ever been in like a full moon driving to the desert in any way? Like you get this weird fucking aura. All right. And it's just the sand bouncing back that way. It looks fucking it looks weird. let's go. got to go. We got to get to these green texts. Yeah. Hard segue to the green text. So let's go with,

Ice Bear (26:16)
Mm-hmm.

Yeah. Yeah. You're absolutely right. Well, green text.

You want me to start?

You want to start.

Grizz (26:35)
I'll start this. I'll start this. This is one of my favorite more funny green text because how crazy it is, like how stupid it is. But I love this one. All right. This was posted in 2018, So 2018, 2020, Trump is re-elected.

Ice Bear (26:38)
Bye.

Please hit me.

Grizz (27:04)
Immediately declares war on Vietnam. Vietnam War 2.0. Thousands of Gen Z kids were drafted into the military. Red text, a few months later. B Rice farmer in Vietnam starts hearing a little yachty playing in the distance and the sounds of rotary engines.

Ice Bear (27:09)
You

Grizz (27:30)
Helicopters start flying over me. Gucci gang starts blasting from the helicopter speakers. Gucci gang, Gucci gang. Whole fucking area around me gets napalmed. Choppers drop off enemy troops. I get smoked by a 17 year old with a pickle Rick sticker on the side of his helmet. He does a Fortnite dance over my body then eats me into a bush.

Ice Bear (27:54)
No...

Grizz (27:59)
You

Ice Bear (28:00)
What a journey. What an absolute journey.

Grizz (28:05)
beautiful.

Which kind of like bringing that Kilimur to present day. love how like that fucking Who is it? This is the whole thing is it was Khalifa that was Khalifa song that like that was Khalifa song that's kind of like coming like resurging and into being a thing where like whoever coming in with like there was one like with pain or it's like a touchy coming in with was Khalifa on a

on a fucking Beats by Dre portable speaker.

Ice Bear (28:36)
no, so we must be on like different ends because all I see is the JBL speakers and it's Fetty Wap. Okay, yeah, because...

Grizz (28:42)
It's a petty okay, actually is petty up. Honestly, I'm not gonna lie. They

blend in they blend in to me because I don't like I don't see any of them. But yeah, so it is petty up. Yeah. Is it a JBL speaker? Yeah, okay. Okay. I was way off. Wait.

Ice Bear (28:48)
Okay. those are so good. It's Fetty Wap on the JBLs.

My favorite edit of that is there's an episode of Pokemon and it's just like Charizard flying down from the moon.

Grizz (29:02)
Yeah, it's so good

Ice Bear (29:11)
It's just a top tier noise. It's so satisfying every time.

Grizz (29:14)
And so it really is good.

You know, it's funny. It's like, like unironically, I think the song is like, like that part of like, it sounds good. I get melody. I like it. It's good, but I've never heard the whole song in my life ever. I've only ever heard it in memes, even like years ago. I've only ever heard it in memes.

Ice Bear (29:23)
Yeah.

Neither

have I. And there's a few artists like that where like you just get sound bites from them and you're like, that sounds okay. Cause like Future is another one. Like I don't think I've ever heard an entire track of his, but like I can rattle off like little five second blurbs from a ton of them.

Grizz (29:46)
that.

Yeah, I like love future but also there's not a lot of like replayability. In my opinion.

Ice Bear (29:53)
Yeah.

All right. You ready for, you ready for mine? All right. I'm going to take you back a little further to the yesteryear of April, 2013. Be me. Be about a six out of 10. Just move into a new neighborhood and have no friends. Be outside mowing the lawn when a random dog runs up to me. Look up and a nine out of 10 is running after it. Help her get dog back.

Grizz (29:57)
Yeah, let's do this. I'm ready. I'm so ready.

Ice Bear (30:19)
Introduce ourselves become very good friends eventually begin dating Fast-forward about two months new girl moves in about a seven out of ten would boink To be polite I introduce myself to new girl new girl and I start to become friends too even though she seems a little odd Tell her I have a girlfriend can clearly she's can clearly see she is literally insanely jealous

Grizz (30:26)
no. shit.

Ice Bear (30:48)
Fast forward two more weeks. Start to see less and less of my girlfriend at the same time. New girl starts to become even more and more of a psycho bitch. Fast forward four more days. Get a random Facebook message from my girlfriend saying seven out of 10 threatened to kill my girlfriend if she ever talked to me again. no. Okay. I know. What the fuck.jpg. Fast forward one more week.

Grizz (31:09)
This is getting wild.

Ice Bear (31:16)
Did not hear or see either girl since that Facebook message. Start growing very worried. Random knock at the door. It's the cops. Shows me a picture of two girls asking if I know them. Say yes, getting more worried. Cops tell me that seven out of 10 committed suicide and remains my girlfriend. And the remains of my girlfriend showed up in her stomach during the autopsy. Too long didn't read. Why was six afraid of seven? Because seven, eight, nine.

Grizz (31:41)
God damn it.

I was fucking locked in too. I did not see that coming at all.

Ice Bear (31:51)
That

was my favorite part about and Okay, so that that reminded me so much of like a norm McDonald joke where I'm just like wasting your fucking time for 90 seconds for a like Be my payoff No, it's my favorite part about any of the norm jokes or anything like that is just like Even though it's a really mediocre payoff just the fact that you got locked into it. It makes it so good

Grizz (31:54)
Shit.

The greatest toke ever told.

And,

oh my God, okay, am I the same thing when like Norma Donalds? Like he's not the best storyteller in the sense of like, I don't know. There's not a lot, a lot, there's not a lot about it to where you're like, Oh, this guy's fucking amazing. But like, he's an amazing storyteller because no matter what he just locks you the fuck in. So that makes him an amazing storyteller. But like, if you just look at the execution from the outside, like he just sounds very like he's just very deadpan and not anything, but for whatever reason.

Ice Bear (32:38)
100 percent.

Grizz (32:48)
Even though he is all those things, like he is fucking amazing at locking you in.

Ice Bear (32:53)
To this day, I've probably heard him do the moth joke like 50 times and I cackle every time.

Grizz (33:01)
Every same,

you know, I've show I've showed a good amount of people a mouth joke and every single time I'm fucking locked in and like I'm just ready for the fucking punch line and I'm getting amped as I'm listening to it and I'm listening to it the entire time with them. Like even if it's like over the photo, like, hold on, hold on, hold on. I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to watch it with you. All right. right. Tell me, tell me when.

Ice Bear (33:20)
Huh.

Grizz (33:29)
Even though I've heard it so many times, I fucking love it. It's so good.

Ice Bear (33:34)
Spoiler, he left the light on.

sorry guys but it's just like that's one of those jokes though where like once you've heard it you can just do your own rambling spin on it you could just like waste as much of people's time as you want and get to the end it's the same result

Grizz (33:38)
Happy to see the best of us, really.

Yeah, and it's it's kind of it's so fucking good

Ice Bear (33:56)
I had a buddy in college, Gwon, that would do this. It was the golden man joke. And it was just this incredibly long setup. We're talking like, he would make it take, without exaggeration, 15 minutes. But you were like, he was very engaging and his cadence was kind of weird, so you were just kind of like fucking hanging on every word. And then it just gets to the point where the punchline is like.

Grizz (34:11)
shit.

Ice Bear (34:23)
every four out of five dentists recommend blah blah blah and it's just like it's not a good joke it's not a good punch line but you're just like what a journey to get here what an absolute journey

Grizz (34:36)
That's so fucking good.

Ice Bear (34:38)
All right, what's your second one?

Grizz (34:40)
All right, so second one. So again, the first one we had funny second one we have messed up. You know, I decided to go and that's a bad route. So here's mine. This is one of my this is the one that I like. I can't say it's one of my favorites, but I do like this one.

just so you get ahead. Image. Sad Peppa the Frog.

Just think sad boy.

Ice Bear (35:11)
Should we preface this next to with, Two Bears Two Bears does not condone or endorse the feelings of these people that wrote these?

Unless you agree with it. I don't agree with mine. Anyway, carry on. Sorry, go on, go on, pep at the frog.

Grizz (35:27)
I don't know, a 17 year old wants to have a Pickle Rick sticker and go into war. know? More power to you, I guess. Sad Pip of the Frog.

Friday, about 6pm, in room, browsing 4chan and playing Minecraft.

Dad comes in. Hey, buddy. Have any plans for the weekend? Not really. No. Why don't you go out with some friends? It's a nice night. Conversation continues for another five minutes. Dad asks about girls and my and my friends.

I try to dodge around admitting that I have no friends and have no experience for girls, but he knows. Okay, buddy. Just let me know if you ever want to ride somewhere or you can borrow my car anytime you want. Pass me on the shoulder and leaves. I get back to Minecraft. After a few minutes, feel thirsty. No drinks in my room. Venture out of my room to go to the kitchen. Hear my father in living room crying.

Look around the corner. He's looking at photo album photo albums at pictures of me. Hey dad. He looks up trying to hide that he was crying. I'm going out with some friends. Can I still borrow the car. He smiles the happiest smile I've seen in years. Sure thing buddy. He gets up and hugs me tears in his eyes. I get dressed get in the car and leave. I drive to an empty parking lot in an industrial area. I go to sleep in the backseat.

Return home the next morning. Pretend I was out with friends all night. Dad hugs me again. I've been doing this almost every weekend for months now.

Ice Bear (37:31)
I just... Why?

Why is my question to you,

Grizz (37:40)
Because he loves his father.

Ice Bear (37:42)
you

Okay. My follow up question is now, how many did you read before you're like, this is the one I want to mess his day up with.

Grizz (37:48)
Hahaha!

no, when we talk about messed up ones that I like, this one was one of the few. I have like two more that are sad that I like a lot. If I'm talking about green text, think this is one of

Ice Bear (38:15)
Okay, well now I feel like I've failed because mine is not nearly that level, but I'll still hit you with it anyway. All right. Be me. About to go to the bathroom. Sister rushes out. Go in. Notice her turd still floating in the toilet. Pick it up. Caress it with my lips. Run it all over my body. Come.

Grizz (38:19)
You

Ice Bear (38:44)
Buckets. Clean up. Exit the bathroom. Dad passes me and apologizes for not flushing.

Hold on, hold on. As a quick sidebar, the follow-ups on this one, the first person is like, why does that somehow make it worse? Followed by a nine out of 10 rating, followed by an answer to the why does that make it worse is because that makes him gay, you dumb fuck. So I mean, there we have it. That is, in my opinion, 4chan in a nutshell. That really sums up that more.

Grizz (39:00)
What the fuck?

shit, yeah.

That is perfect fortune. God damn, that's good. You know, this was perfect because I brought us down, right? I brought us down with that journey and then you just brought us right back up. I fucking love this. You know, however you feel about that, at least it wasn't caprophagia. And if you don't know what that is, that's eating turds.

Ice Bear (39:32)
you

teach people words. Don't teach people words they don't need to know. Do you have your second beer?

Grizz (39:52)
That's fair.

I got my second beer locked and loaded.

Ice Bear (39:56)
All right. All

right. Did you finish your first beer? And how do you feel about it today?

Grizz (40:00)
I did all 1624 ounces.

I like

Ice Bear (40:10)
Okay, well, while you're finishing that bad boy instigator here, ladies and gents, was very tasty. I'm off to a strong start with these episodes. Nothing's been bad yet. old instigator, I'm going to give this a solid, well-earned B. It's a good beer. If it was on sale, I'd be thrilled. If it was full price, I'd still probably buy it again. And I would certainly buy it if it was on tap.

doesn't have anything extra to push it into that top stratosphere but it was a really good beer. was damn good beer. Will you tell about yours? I'm gonna go grab my second one.

Grizz (40:51)
Sounds good, so, Morgan, I stand by.

I used to have shit taste buds apparently. I think this beer is a... I'm giving it a C. No.

to give it a fucking C. I'm dead to C minus honestly. Like I don't

It is a yeah, I was saying, I mean, I have to give it a C minus honestly. I can't give it a D cause it is drinkable when it's cold. I don't think I'm going to ever get it again, to be honest. I, I'm not even sure if I'm going to actually order it. If I was anywhere now, if it was like the only IPA there fine, but like,

Ice Bear (41:27)
Mm-mm. Mm-mm-mm.

Yeah.

Grizz (41:49)
I think the perfect thing is if anybody, I think a popular brand, Sierra Nevada, if you've had Sierra Nevada's Torpedo, this is that, but more bitter and like slightly better payoff. So yeah, I'm giving this a C minus.

Ice Bear (41:55)
Mm-hmm.

Very good.

mean, not very good, like, given last night, it's honestly better than I expected.

Grizz (42:10)
Yeah.

Yeah, because

last night was like a D minus F honestly. So this one C minus, I will not ever be buying it again. Sucks because I love the name. Yeah, it's disappointing, but I don't know maybe this shows growth in my alcoholism, you know, or like maybe I'm a better, is there a beer equivalent to a sommelier?

Ice Bear (42:35)
You have a sophisticated bear palate now.

There should be. If there isn't, we should make it bearmelier.

Grizz (42:46)
Like, you know what mean, like craft beers.

Yeah, bearmelier. yeah. It would be like that fucking ice cream guy you know what talking about?

Ice Bear (42:56)
I wish I did. want to be on board for this, but no. What is... Oh, just make that noise? Oh, yes.

Grizz (43:01)
good. You're talking about where the guy gets the spoon. It's like that metal spoon. And he's tasting the colors. And he's like, get

to the front and you know, about I fucking love that guy. That's a good guy.

Ice Bear (43:15)
that is a good guy that is a good guy indeed alright you wanna go first for number two or you want me to go first? I don't even remember man alright

Grizz (43:22)
I went first you go first on this one. wait, did you go? No you went first Who knows you go first again

Ice Bear (43:33)
So I'm excited for this one because this is one, as you know, if I see something I've never seen before, I'm always excited. I've never heard of this brewery. This is from Prince Edward County Parsons Brewing Company. So that's right next door to us. That's one county over. This is Mousetrap Rye Pale Ale.

Grizz (43:41)
Ooh, that's exciting.

Interesting. Ooh, I do like the minimal art minimal monochrome. I like that. I like that a lot.

Ice Bear (43:59)
Yeah,

it's a nice color scheme, not a lot going on with the art, good font choices. It's not gigantically powerful. It's a 6.6. The only caption we have here is true stories, well-brood. Brood sustainably, shared passionately, crafted authentically. Those are all good things. And the look of it is... scrumptious.

Grizz (44:06)
Yeah, good logo, good simple logo.

Alright.

I like that now Here's mine I'm about to unlock it Everybody like my sit sprite holding the little star candy thing. Love it. Amazing. So I got it at the LA fair last year but

Ice Bear (44:30)
you

everyone better.

Grizz (44:55)
This right here is I've been so excited for. was absolutely sad. Was that like, were you excited for my beer or was that like a delicious flavor?

Ice Bear (45:07)
I was excited for Evil Can Evil man and also also it's good so double whammy.

Grizz (45:09)
perfect. So,

so De Steele Brewery is a great brewery. We've had a handful of them. Super awesome that we have not had on the podcast because we're only three episodes in. So I'm going to have them on here. Even the tiger like some of the stuff. Like one time I accidentally gave away one of their hazies that had a mosaic mosaic haze to my step sister and the tiger. She was fine with me giving it away.

Ice Bear (45:28)
You monster.

Grizz (45:38)
or she was finding me giving something to my step sister, but she was not finding me giving away that specific beer. She was like, what's wrong with you? Give away one of yours. And I was like, gosh, I thought that one was mine. So I messed up. anyways, disto brewery, great breweries from normal Illinois. This is evil, Knievel, Imperial West Coast, IPA the fire ring.

the full evil Knievel in the amazing powerful white suit and a motorcycle. is one pint, 9 % alcohol per volume, 60 IBU. So

Ice Bear (46:19)
my.

that's a bitter little boy.

Grizz (46:24)
Evil Knievel Imperial IPA is a daring West Coast style brew that is ramped up with a thrilling burst of hoppiness, fruity aromas, and the perfectly balanced bitterness. Citra, my favorite hop. Mosaic, I do love this hop. Tiger favorite hop. And Chinook hops, which is I don't have much. I've had some beers with Chinook hops, but it's not often I come across them.

They take center stage, soaring through the flavor profile while a vintage malt backdrop as a touch of nostalgia. Cheers.

Ice Bear (47:03)
You

Grizz (47:05)
It's a period that is just a single cheers and an exclamation point.

Ice Bear (47:11)
Well, crack that little ad open. That was absolutely majestic. A rare seal. A rare birthday seal.

Grizz (47:13)
So as you see...

better come through. look at that. You see that little cameo? A rare seal just

a birthday seal. Do we have to sing happy birthday? There's a christen

Ice Bear (47:31)
No, it's not

yet. It's not yet. It's just her birthday weekend.

Grizz (47:36)
Yeah, but this is going to come out next Thursday. So like, it's going to be after.

Ice Bear (47:40)
Do we want to sing it now? I think we should. Shall we?

Grizz (47:42)
I think we should, right?

I think that's got a parody.

Ice Bear (47:50)
Happy birthday to you!

Grizz (47:50)
Happy birthday to...

Ice Bear (47:58)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

Grizz (47:58)
Happy birthday to you!

Ice Bear (48:10)
Happy birthday dear...

Grizz (48:11)
The birthday...

Ice Bear (48:21)
See you!

Grizz (48:22)
See you.

That's my boys. My boys are coming into this too. Happy birthday.

Ice Bear (48:38)
day

Grizz (48:46)
You

You

Ice Bear (48:56)
The husks were fully engaged. were ready. They were ready to sing.

Grizz (49:00)
I love it. That

was beautiful.

Ice Bear (49:06)
That was a thing of beauty. Our syncopation was off. I'm going to assume since you're the musician and I am but a drunken bear that that's my fault. So you have to teach me how to... Yes, teach me how to doggie and also how to be rhythmically inclined.

Grizz (49:25)
Ha

came out of Dallas but yeah or like a there's a group here that you know yeah an artist and our T-stie would say but going to the thing the only reason why I brought back the El Chingon for this podcast episode was because I figured it would pair well with evil Knievel because that's what exactly what he is so

Ice Bear (49:34)
The doggy?

and our teeth.

Thanks.

Grizz (50:00)
I think I have a very themed pairing today, which I very much a fan of. This is the Imperial West Coast Epo.

Evil Knievel.

Ice Bear (50:14)
It looks quite tasty. I hope for your sake, it's better than your first one. Two, two, two bombers in a row is never good.

Grizz (50:24)
Already better than the first one.

Ice Bear (50:25)
thank God. Good. Cause this one is also good.

Grizz (50:27)
Lots of better too.

you

I don't think you've ever gone through like, what do you call it? Like a shitty beer spell? Like, is it, it's not a dry spell, but it might as well be. Yeah.

Ice Bear (50:44)
But yeah, I mean it is. Yeah, it's a dry spell.

It's, because you've definitely, you've dealt with some long ones and I'll have a bad one here and there, but I don't think I've ever even had a twofer. Like normally at least one of my two for the week is drinkable.

Grizz (50:58)
Yeah.

Yeah.

Ice Bear (51:06)
Hmm. Well.

Grizz (51:07)
Yeah.

Ice Bear (51:11)
Should we tease them? Should we let them know what they're in for now?

Grizz (51:16)
actually do let's just, let's just narrow this a little bit. right. So last week we did the March madness bear bowl NFL edition, which I had a lot of fun doing. know the episode just came, just came out recently. So like, know at the time of recording, this was a day or two, a day ago, the episode came out. So I know not as much people listen to it yet. but I had a lot of fun doing it.

Ice Bear (51:31)
as did I.

Grizz (51:45)
I do think we should, if it's received well, I think we should do it again, but we'll go by division per episode. Maybe, you know, make, make it a whole series. But we decided to do the same or similar, but you know, we've been talking about sports a lot, which is, know, we liked, we liked the sports ball, love the stuff, all the good things, but you know, we like other things.

Ice Bear (51:51)
Yeah. Yep.

Our interests are varied and diverse.

Grizz (52:12)
And if you can judge by... I Spare His Garb.

He likes skating and he's a weeb.

Ice Bear (52:21)
Yeah, that sums it up pretty well.

Grizz (52:26)
So we thought we we'd lean into the weeb stuff.

Ice Bear (52:31)
Why not? There's a lot of lot of anime going on right now.

Grizz (52:35)
So 2025 is an interesting year, right?

Ice Bear (52:40)
It sure is. Lots of hardened series coming back for more.

Grizz (52:47)
So why don't you lay out the ground works for this whole segment here.

Ice Bear (52:53)
Okay, so our concept here was we were doing a little mini March Madness bracket with anime coming out in 2025, the year of our Lord. So we didn't want to go full 64 we could have, but like the odds of people being aware of 64 different anime, you'd have to be deep into it. We're not going to assume that everyone did you do my trick? Did you do my trick? Did you do the ear and the nostril? You were scared.

Grizz (53:08)
You

I was scared of shooting some stuff out, so I didn't do it.

Ice Bear (53:23)
Alright, do it later.

Okay. So anyway, we kept it to a more reasonable 16 anime that we're excited about and that have high scores on my anime list right now. So I feel confident that my own tastes have been diluted a little bit. So we did a 16 anime bracket and I did my best to pair them up based on my anime list scoring if I didn't have my own

really strong opinion or if I didn't think old grids would have a really strong opinion about it. So that being said, do you want to get into it?

Grizz (54:01)
think we should get into it. Are you going to keep tally so we know what the next round is?

Ice Bear (54:05)
Not only am gonna keep tally, I came prepared. I have notes.

Grizz (54:09)
see, I swear, he does do his homework.

Ice Bear (54:10)
I'm gonna keep the battle bracket locked and loaded. I have a pen. I'm gonna write things down today, like a journalist.

Grizz (54:17)
Did you?

my Lord. He's ops. All right, let's go.

Ice Bear (54:23)
Okay, so number one, our first matchup, if you will, is going to be Lazarus versus Kowloon Generic Romance. So we have our one seed versus our 16 seed.

Grizz (54:41)
So here's the thing, Lazarus, I'm not super into, but I know you are super stoked about it. And I am also like, this is going to be amazing for a very specific reason.

Ice Bear (54:56)
Yeah, so for those

that don't know, Lazarus is from the famed producer of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo and Terror and Resonance. So if you...

Grizz (55:08)
And less known,

but most amazing. Kids on a slope.

Ice Bear (55:13)
Honestly, that probably is the best. that to this day is my favorite thing.

Grizz (55:19)
kids on the slope. only watch it because of you. Which if you look at like our old podcast we talked about and that was one of the reasons that that was that episode. That was the reason why I watched it. Fucking fantastic. Like slice of life anime. One of the tops easy.

Ice Bear (55:23)
It's so good.

Mm

hmm. And the other thing about it is it's one of the few that really emphasizes how you can take a story and escalate it to something in a different stratosphere with like beautiful music and a good score. Because like you just like sometimes like so that for those that haven't seen it, it's a very jazz based show.

And there are certain scenes that are like sorrowful and like they hit you with like these brass instruments. You melt like it destroys you as a person. And then same thing goes for the happy moments and the exciting moments and it just really feeds into it.

Grizz (56:14)
Yep. And just like when they're jamming

the scenes where they're just like jamming, it's so fucking good. Like the thing with like a lot of anime, especially around that time, the animation for like bands playing musicians playing and like, or just dancing was always like hit and miss and more miss than hits kids on a slope just fucking nailed it each time. think as much as I love samurai Champloo.

Cowboy Bebop will always be number one for me. But I think Kids on the Slope took dethrone Champloo for me. Easy.

Ice Bear (56:53)
Yeah, mean, same thing like Cowboy Bebop is like, it's got a special place in my heart because it was like my gateway into anime. So even though I kind of can recognize that things are probably better, it forever will be like my creme de la creme. But yeah, our Sloppy Boys are just phenomenal. And also another one.

am I blanking on it? It's the more modern one. It's two girls. They're like, it's like a music competition one. What is that called? This is gonna drive me nuts. Carol and Tuesday. Carol and Tuesday. Thank you, Seal, for the save. Yes, Carol and Tuesday is also really fucking good. Like it's heartfelt. And it's another one where like the music is really great. Like it really drives the story.

but the other thing about Lazarus that a lot of people, especially your, your non anime enthusiasts might like about this is the, lad from John Wick is involved.

Grizz (58:02)
Shit I do I do remember that thing thing. Yeah. Yeah

Ice Bear (58:03)
Yeah, so like all the choreography and the fight scenes that is

Chad... What's the Stathelski? I'm sorry if I'm butchering that guy's name. don't know it for sure. Yeah, sure. Chadwick. Chadwick. So yeah, if you like John Wick, if you like Cowboy Bebop, is... Lazarus is a combination of that.

Grizz (58:12)
Chadwick.

Yeah, easy.

I don't see how anything can beat it. Honestly, I'm going Lazarus and then it gets a no-brainer.

Ice Bear (58:28)
Yeah, so am I. And Kowloon, the other thing about that one is like, so that is an adult cast, which I find for like our age group, it gets harder and harder to relate to like the high school thing in anime. So anytime I see an adult cast romance anime or rom-com, I'm like, all right, I'm going to watch it for sure. Cause I'm like, thank you for realizing adults are still consuming anime. But yeah, for sure Lazarus is moving on for me.

So not too much fighting there. All right. Our second round here, the number two seat. Danda Don season two versus Zenshu.

So, Don Da Don, did you watch that? You watched that, yes sir.

Grizz (59:21)
I watched it. I'm not, have two episodes left and I've been, so I have this toxic trait where I don't want things to be, to be over.

Ice Bear (59:30)
100%.

I absolutely relate to that.

Grizz (59:33)
So like, I will do this thing where I'm like, all right, I'm at the season finale. I'm at the season finale. I do not want this to be done. So I'm just going to wait because I don't, I don't want it to be done.

Ice Bear (59:51)
So I'm like that with books. I'm like that with anime. I'm like that with video games. There are so many things I'm like 90 % at, not because I don't want to finish it, not because it's not good, but just because I don't want it to end. Like I just don't. So I get that a hundred percent, but Don Don is fantastic for the

Grizz (1:00:04)
Yep.

Yeah, I think I've

watched enough of it to where I'm like, it's, it's amazing. It deserves all the praise.

Ice Bear (1:00:14)
And and much

like what we were just talking about music like creepy nuts like fucking goddamn so good like just absolute bangers. Like that is probably if I had to guess like this year, you know, Spotify does your Spotify rap. They're my early favorite for my number one artist like creepy nuts is probably up there on my Spotify.

Grizz (1:00:30)
Yeah.

They did do a great, really, really, really great fucking opening. Lord.

Ice Bear (1:00:44)
And so,

so for those that don't know our 15 seed zenshu, the premise of this is basically this girl wakes up with the power to bring her animations to life. So she has like a tragic background. She wants to like bring hope to the world. And so she's going to like use her animation to try fix it. It seems heartfelt. It seems good. Like I'm definitely interested, but it's not da da da. So

Grizz (1:01:11)
Yeah,

as...

Glancing at the list quickly when you sent it to me yesterday, don't think there's much there that could be a contest for DanZeron except for like two or three of them. So I think DanZeron takes it easy.

Ice Bear (1:01:28)
Yeah. So that brings us into, this, I'm going to rely on you to carry us because I'm not as well versed in this universe as you are. Our number three seed, and again, this is not only Grizz here, but the MyAnimeList score affiliates. We have Bleach versus Moonrise.

Grizz (1:01:50)
So moonrise, the mentally, don't know much past like description. know what I mean? But like, but yeah, but bleach fucking wins it. My hot take is it is, it is possibly the best show in an anime ever outside of one piece. One piece is the greatest anime ever made. Although it's not my favorite. I will die on the hill that it's the best. You can like Naruto, you can like Dragon Ball Z, you can like whatever, but they all.

Ice Bear (1:01:58)
Mm-hmm.

Grizz (1:02:20)
Pale in comparison to One Piece because of character development, characters coming back, story building, world building, and everything else. One Piece is king. And Nico Robin. Outside of that, Bleach. Name a better character design cast. Bleach, all the dudes are fucking dope as fuck. All the guys are fucking awesome. All powers are fucking cool.

All of the girls are fucking awesome by themselves. You name a series of more wife is, ain't happening. Bleach wins outside of just that. The OSTs for bleach. The music in bleach is bar none top tier dubbed. Phenomenal subbed phenomenal. Everything about it is great. Now you can talk shit about all the filler because that is true. Cut out the filler. Watch the original arc story stuff.

Ice Bear (1:03:21)
So what you're saying is I should invest my time in bleach.

Grizz (1:03:24)
1000 % if you like if you're gonna watch any kind of shonen anime ever don't and watch Blake instead Even if you don't watch any of the filler the fillers good if you like the characters and you want to watch more of the characters just interacting because what the fillers do is they create storylines were like People that shouldn't really interact a lot if they give them opportunities to so like there's funny moments and there's like Wholesome moments and stuff and it's fun watching for those reasons They get annoying because they just get

So people hate them totally understand that. But main story wise and bleach it's fucking amazing. One of the best yarn and main character design bar none. then I'm not saying just music fucking is top tier. Like it tight Kubo is a fucking G I'm bleach all the way.

Ice Bear (1:04:19)
I'm not gonna even try argue with you. I'm gonna comfortably rest on your opinion and I say bleach moves on. All right, that brings us to our four seed against our dark horse 13 seed, which I think I might be going for unless you can talk me out of it. Four seed one punch season three is finally coming out this year against rent a girlfriend season four.

Grizz (1:04:44)
I totally forgot about that.

Ice Bear (1:04:53)
So first of all, I will admit I have owned a One Punch Man t-shirt that has the One Punch Man workout and it is not a good workout. It's not sustainable. Do not do 100 pushups, 100 sit-ups, 100 punches in the 10K a day. 10K a day is not good for you. It's just not, don't do it. Not every day. Do it six days a week. Do it five days a week. You'll live, but not every day.

Grizz (1:05:16)
Yeah, I will. I, know, controversial opinion here. I've never been a huge one punch man fan.

Ice Bear (1:05:26)
So I really like the art. do find the scenes where they go from like the stylized anime to like the more like Dilbert comic like slashes, I find that funny. But other than that, give me a good nonsense rom-com especially. Rent a Girlfriend over the Seasons has added characters where like it's...

Grizz (1:05:34)
Yeah, yeah. It is funny. Yeah, for sure.

Ice Bear (1:05:50)
It's, I'm not always a fan of harems, but like I like every character in it so far. So for me, I would move that one forward just because I'm very curious to see if they're going to finally wrap it up this season or if they're going to push it even further and add a fifth.

Grizz (1:06:08)
Yeah, for me, I am a fan of harems. There's more shitty ones than good ones. But like when you find a good harem that kind of like breaks the mold a little bit, it's pretty great. So

Yeah, I'm going to have to go around a girlfriend. I know it's controversial in the sense of like one punch man has a really, really big following and everything. And it's great and everything. like, don't know, man, Saitama and all stuff cool. like, yeah, I don't know. It never hit it for me. Like I watched season one and I get why people like it a lot, but it just, it just didn't resonate with me. You know what I mean?

Ice Bear (1:06:55)
It, I think there's like, it, ties in a lot of things. It, to not be too, too negative, but it just seems like it's taking bits and pieces from other existing good things and just kind of lumping them together and in a not particularly stylish sort of way.

Grizz (1:07:11)
Yeah.

No, yeah, 1,000%.

Ice Bear (1:07:19)
All right. So we'll move that one on. That's our first, our first sleeper dark horse that has, has migrated to the second round. this, this for me, go ahead. Sorry.

Grizz (1:07:30)
I

dropped a beef jerky. I'm going to take my headphones off and pick it up. just keep it going and then speed it to me.

Ice Bear (1:07:35)
Okay. All right. Okay.

Got it. Okay. So this is the first one that is actually like, I'm very curious about Gru's opinion because I'm very on the fence with this matchup. We have a spy family season three, spy X family, spy times family. I've never known how you read that X versus my dress up darling season two. I have a leaning.

So, all right, hit me with this, Grizz. When you see written word x word, so like hunter hunter, is it hunter times hunter? Is it hunter x hunter? Is it hunter hunter? How do you say something like that?

Grizz (1:08:17)
X, it's always X. You include the X.

Ice Bear (1:08:19)
Okay, so if

that's your opinion, our fifth seed, based on my anime list score, is Spy X Family Season 3. And I do love that show, I like all the characters. But boy do I love the 12th seed, which is My Dress Up Darling Season 2.

Grizz (1:08:36)
Okay, so yeah, so here here. Okay. Here's the thing This one here was actually the hard one for me when I did see this

Ice Bear (1:08:45)
I was just saying

that this is by far the hardest round for me in the first.

Grizz (1:08:48)
So if for the 2025 anime release calendar, it being the Spy X Family 3 and Dress of Dralin 4.

My gut tells me Spy X Family 3, I'm not gonna lie.

Ice Bear (1:09:08)
So I'm willing to hear your argument, because again, this was a hard one for me, because I really like both of these. But my gut tells me the opposite.

Grizz (1:09:17)
And okay, so why are you picking the opposite? go to that. Why is, why is Jessup Drowling for?

Ice Bear (1:09:23)
Because, okay, so Spy X Family to me is more of a formula commercial show. My dress up darling to my eye and ear seems to have a little more heart and soul. I'm definitely more invested in the couple. And the Seal loves it. And happy wife, happy life. So her opinion matters a great deal to me.

Grizz (1:09:32)
thousand percent.

does.

That's very fair. I will say like, yes, it is very much more better slice life couple, more realistic in the sense of like couple dynamic. I would also argue like. Cosplay gig girlfriend changes, whatever thing in the things of like that is also very, very formulaic as well. Not the couple themselves, but as far as just like the.

Ice Bear (1:10:17)
Sure.

Grizz (1:10:18)
So like, that's where I'm kind of like, it's kind of similar in that sense to me.

Ice Bear (1:10:23)
But I hate Anya. I hate that annoying little girl.

Grizz (1:10:26)
you hate Anya? That's fair, because I like Anya. So yeah, I am a fan of Anya.

Ice Bear (1:10:30)
Interesting.

I'm willing to overlook her though for Bond.

Grizz (1:10:38)
See, here's the thing, like, I love Anya, I love Mon, I love your. Like, every single, like, main point of the thing, I like them individually.

Ice Bear (1:10:47)
Okay, I think we've reached our first standstill and I think the only fair way to settle it is rock, scissors.

Grizz (1:10:57)
I love rock-paper-scissors.

Ice Bear (1:10:59)
All right, let's go.

Grizz (1:11:01)
Okay, wait. Do you do rock, paper, scissors, or rock, paper, scissors and you go scissors?

Ice Bear (1:11:06)
So if I was left to my own devices, I wouldn't do either. would do junk and a Po. But I would say I'll defer to you and I will let you lead the journey.

Grizz (1:11:12)
Ha ha ha ha.

All right. Rock, paper, scissors, shoot. We go and shoot.

Ice Bear (1:11:21)
Rock, paper,

scissors, shoot. And we go and shoot. Okay, let's go.

Grizz (1:11:25)
Best 203 or one out of one? All right. All the one was right. Rock, paper, scissors, shoot. Rock, paper, scissors, shoot.

Ice Bear (1:11:26)
No, one out of one. All the marbles.

Rock, paper, scissors, shoot.

Rock, paper, scissors,

Damn it. All right, fucking spy family moving on. All right, got it. Okay, this brings us to one where, this is the first one that I'll be honest, I don't know one of these. I've never seen it, I've never watched it, I know nothing about it. And when I was looking at it, I just didn't even care to research it. So that's the type of commitment you get from me.

Number six we have Beastar Season 3, which I definitely am aware of. And number 11 is Kaiju Number 8, Season 2.

Grizz (1:12:15)
Okay, Kaiji number eight, I think is slightly above mid anime. I've seen the first one. It's good. If you never watch it, you're not missing anything. Kind of is one of those, you know what I mean?

Ice Bear (1:12:31)
Most of the reviews that I've seen just say it's like a poor man solo leveling and I'm like I don't I don't need to see that again.

Grizz (1:12:37)
That that's

actually very, very, very fair. hygiene number eight, I think is good. It's one of those that you can put on and not pay attention to that much.

Ice Bear (1:12:50)
So it's just a good background noise kind of thing.

Grizz (1:12:52)
Yeah,

and it's good and there's good moments. But like, if you've never watched it, your life is not going to be enriched by watching it. Beastars, ultimately, I'm not a huge fan of like, because I'm not like

Ice Bear (1:13:06)
on you, monster! Beastars is gold!

Grizz (1:13:10)
just not a furry. like, I don't hate it by any means, but also I'm like, I feel like it's like kaiju in the sense of like, if I don't watch it, my life's not going to be any worse.

Ice Bear (1:13:23)
Have you have you even considered that Legoshi is actually a modern day Lord Byron and you should hang on his every word?

Grizz (1:13:33)
I actually love Lord Byron, so that's kind of convincing, honestly.

Ice Bear (1:13:37)
Okay, well I'm just saying

if you're indifferent, I'm sending Beastars on to the next round.

Grizz (1:13:41)
Yeah,

I'm totally fine with V-Stars beating Kaiju because admittedly I've only seen first season of V-Stars. So.

Ice Bear (1:13:50)
Okay, well

give the second season a shot. It gets darker.

Grizz (1:13:54)
Yeah, so I'm totally cool with Beastars beating Kaiju. Kaiju again, Kaiju's incredibly mid.

Ice Bear (1:14:01)
Okay, so this one is kind of very, very random in terms of how it got seeded, because I think the MyAnimeList scoring must be off, because this doesn't make sense to me given the popularity of the franchises. So I'm just assuming, I don't know, either a glitch or maybe people aren't like ranking it yet. But this is another one that was actually quite hard for me. We have...

Jujutsu Kaisen, Season 3 versus Solo Leveling Season 2, which is actually out right now.

Grizz (1:14:39)
It's like, it's like what? was a six, right?

Ice Bear (1:14:40)
midway through. almost over. It's almost on.

Grizz (1:14:46)
I've been waiting for it to finish because I want to binge it. So I've been waiting for season two to finish.

Ice Bear (1:14:47)
So.

So I have a clear, concise favorite, and I love both of these, but I still have a very clear answer. So do you have a strong opinion one way or the other?

Grizz (1:15:03)
So, so I do. On its face. I will say.

Hmm.

On its face, I will say I probably like...

I probably like solo leveling more than Jujutsu Kaisen on its face in the sense of like solo leveling I binged, a lot and I was super involved with. I admit though I do think Jujutsu Kaisen is a better anime.

Ice Bear (1:15:46)
Okay, so we're actually very aligned on this because I recognize my own opinion is probably incorrect, but I'm going to stand by it. And I, especially because this is the season of solo leveling where tank gets introduced, which for those that don't know is the polar bear that he arises. and I just love that whole arc. For sure. I would move on solo leveling.

But like, JJK is phenomenal. Like, it's great, great characters. It's a great world.

Grizz (1:16:11)
Yeah, but.

So,

so here's the thing, man, as much as, and so here's why I'm like, I don't know. So is this season.

So here's the thing. Is this season where?

fuck's her name is this season so here's this will dictate my stuff

Is this season of,

JJK where Utah and Riga come out.

Ice Bear (1:16:53)
I don't know.

Grizz (1:16:54)
Because

if Rika and Yuta come out in this season of JJK, this season wins. Because fucking Rika and Yuta, like the whole like sad boy, I don't care if my girlfriend goes away and she becomes a fucking demon, that's still my girlfriend kind of thing. And then they're like a duo while she's a fucking JJK creature of the dead. And he's like, nah, that's still my boo. Like, I don't know, man, that wins.

That wins 11 times out of 10. if this season's where they are, I know they came out in the movie, or they got introduced in the movie, is this where they are in it? Then this wins.

Ice Bear (1:17:37)
All right, let's operate under the assumption that they are that you're voting that way. And I'm sticking with solo leveling because tank is my boy. And I think we rock paper scissors it again. Unless you have a different tiebreaker method, I'm open to suggestions.

Grizz (1:17:41)
Then JJK, JJK, 1000%.

I'm cool with rock, scissors. OK, I'm cool with that.

Is there any other, I don't think this is possible any other way. Unless we, let's do this.

Ice Bear (1:18:05)
state capital

off.

Grizz (1:18:11)
Canada doesn't have a state, it's not a real place. Let's do this.

Ice Bear (1:18:15)
you

Grizz (1:18:19)
Let's do this. How about, how about this may be controversial because I don't even know if this is valid. But let's just, I thought of flipping the coin, I was like, nah, let's do this. I am going to, cool. I am going to write a number in my hand and it's going to be an odd or an even number.

Ice Bear (1:18:26)
You gotta flip a coin.

Grizz (1:18:49)
You pick odd or you pick even. If you pick the number correctly, it's going to be solo leveling. If you pick it wrong, it's going to be JJK.

Ice Bear (1:19:03)
Okay, I'm fine with this. I accept your terms. you literally wrote it on your palm. Okay, I like it. Now hold on. Is this some shenanigans where it's a six and you're going to flip your hand to be whatever it is and you're going look at the nine? Okay. Okay. All right, perfect. All right, I accept your terms and I say to you, sir, you, knowing that I have a preference for even numbers.

Grizz (1:19:08)
Yes, I did.

Definitely not that. So you're good. It's undeniably an odd or uneven number.

Ice Bear (1:19:32)
You probably, hold on, don't open your hand yet because I'm going to think this out. You, knowing I have a preference for even numbers, wrote odd, but then you knew I would think this out far enough to think that I would think odd. And then you circled back and wrote even. But then, did you 5D chess this? You wrote an even number.

Grizz (1:19:56)
Even your final answer

Ice Bear (1:19:59)
even as my final answer. Fucking hell. Alright. So JJK moves on.

Grizz (1:20:06)
I thought

even numbers because we had this conversation before so I like if I pick it out he's gonna know and then I was like he's gonna think that I I try to dupe him so then

Ice Bear (1:20:12)
you

can't believe you

6D Chessed me. You did the sixth dimension of chess.

Grizz (1:20:30)
We played enough online chess against each other. That's I had an idea.

Ice Bear (1:20:34)
What a great chess app. All right, we're onto our final round of the first round, which by the way, do we just end this at the first round and save the second round for another day? I think that's a good idea too. So just as a quick recap, we have only one underdog winning so far. One seed Lazarus has moved on, two seed Dondodon Season Two has moved on, three seed Bleach Thousand Years moved on.

Grizz (1:20:45)
I think that's a good idea. So where are we at right now?

Ice Bear (1:21:02)
13 Seed is our only sleeper with Rent a Girlfriend Season 4, 5 Seed Spy Family Season 3, 6 Seed Beastar Season 3, and 7 Seed JJK Season 3. Which brings us to our final, which is kind of a weird one because it's the first one that's not a season. But I just, I think it's too, too on the pulse to miss. We have 8 Seed Chainsaw Man movie.

versus Call of the Night Season 2.

So this is our eight, nine. This is another one that I struggled with because I really like both.

Grizz (1:21:43)
So here's the thing. think, I think I'm going to largely lean onto you because call of the night, not super familiar with, but absolutely love chainsaw man. So my vote's going chainsaw man, but admittedly, I don't know much about call of the night. So if you can convince me otherwise, if that's your choice, then let's hear it.

Ice Bear (1:21:53)
Okay.

So I'm not gonna try and talk you into voting for that, but I am going to try and talk you into watching it. So Call of the Night has a really fantastic opening. It's another creepy nuts one. So really, really good music. It's a fun premise. Basically, if you haven't seen the first season, it's guy meets vampire girl and he like...

It's this weird dynamic where like she's supposed to turn him into a vampire, but he's like, nah, not yet. But like, I really want to, but she's like, no. So there's like this weird paranormal thing and it's very music is key in this. It's another one where it's a really good soundtrack. The art is great. And it's like.

It's funny in a weird way. it's one of those things where like there's scenes where I laughed really hard, but I'm not sure if that was the intention, which made it even better. But Chainsaw Man is just, it is what it is and it's great.

Grizz (1:23:12)
Yeah, so always talking about like, so when I think of like vampire girl protagonist duo, whatever stuff, are we talking more like non-ichi high school DXD or more like mono-guitari?

Ice Bear (1:23:31)
Okay, art is more the latter. the so the vibe of the relationship, honestly, the closest thing I can compare it to is Toradora. Like that's, that's the energy the main characters give me. Like that's, that's kind of the vibe.

Grizz (1:23:45)
Interesting. Okay.

Like, right, like, pom-tom Tiger Uji. Tiger Uji, okay.

Ice Bear (1:23:54)
Yes. So

I definitely think like for sure watch it, but I'm not going to fight for that winning this. think I'm more excited for Chainsaw Man. Because that's another one where just like, like JJK, like the art is great. The story is great. The characters are great. The writers are willing to kill everyone, which as someone that has like dabbled in like creative writing.

It is so fucking hard to kill a character you like, so I really respect when writers are like, fuck it, we're just gonna kill.

Grizz (1:24:25)
That's fair.

Ice Bear (1:24:27)
So yeah, I would move chainsaw man on.

Grizz (1:24:32)
I'm down I'm down with that being the the lineup that actually really hard. I'm actually not looking forward to episode the next episode because this is going to be our lineup.

Ice Bear (1:24:40)
Neither, neither am I,

gonna be hard. But the good thing about it is I am going to refresh my memory on all of the ones that have moved forward and like really formulate some strong opinions.

Grizz (1:24:49)
Yeah, I'm gonna have to, yeah. Yeah,

you're gonna have to me the list because I'm gonna, I need to, because yeah, I already going into them like, fuck, this is gonna be a difficult one.

Ice Bear (1:25:00)
Yeah,

yeah, I'll give you the list for sure. So, hey, we're getting better at this. Like we're shortening it down.

Grizz (1:25:08)
We're going close to

a minute and a Yeah. We're going from two hours to a minute and a half. I think it's pretty good. Um, so quick little recap going into the next round. Who, who do we have?

Ice Bear (1:25:13)
Mm-hmm.

All right, so going into round two, next time we revisit this, which I don't know, do we throw in another, maybe we throw in a, maybe we do like basketball for the, for the mascot thing in between. Maybe we should pivot back before we finish this up. Yeah, we'll figure something out. Yeah. Yeah. Vote. So right now we have, we are going to do a matchup one is going to be Lazarus versus rent a girlfriend.

Grizz (1:25:35)
We'll figure it How about people? Yeah, people let us know. We'll figure it out.

Ice Bear (1:25:49)
That will be followed by Don to Don season two against Chainsaw Man movie. And then we have Bleach Spy Family. mm-hmm. and finally Beastar season three, JJK season three.

Grizz (1:26:02)
That's our gross.

It's gonna get good. There's one there where I'm like, oh fucking lord. But yeah.

Ice Bear (1:26:11)
Yeah, it's going to.

Was it the last

one? Because if you want to just move JJK on, I'm ready to do it. Was it the last one? Was it that one? Yeah, that's going to be quick.

Grizz (1:26:21)
That one's going to be more than he's

the hard one for me is Blake versus Spikes family, but

Ice Bear (1:26:32)
I'll watch some bleach for you. Because right now in my head, it's not hard.

Grizz (1:26:36)
I'm telling you,

I'm telling you, like if you just watch the Bleach main thing, coming to character development, coming to character arc, coming to character design to just OST to like literally everything, Bleach is top tier. 1000 % is top tier. Even like the hero's journey as far as the Sornan thing goes, Bleach is fucking unparalleled. Ichigo's, I think he's a better protagonist than Naruto, than Goku, than even, I would say even Luffy.

So like, it's, I hold Bleach in very, very, very high regard. Again, I would pick one piece over Bleach in the sense of like better anime just because of, but again, a thousand episodes versus 200 episodes. You know what I mean? Like it's, it's a thing. Yeah. But like Bleach though, character development, character design, world design, world development, ease of access.

Ice Bear (1:27:22)
One is more approachable.

Grizz (1:27:36)
OSTs like bleach is fucking top tier. They're not going to park in every single thing. And after like, like, if you like action bleach, if you like sad boy, bleach, if you like fucking heroes journey bleach, if you like, like struggle, if you like just those like listless, like not no hope part and bleach. it's, there's so much things in bleach. It's like, if you like comedy bleach, like again, there's

It shines in so much things. Bleach's crux. It's, Akili's heel is all the filler episodes that it had. Yeah. If you skipped again, if you watch Bleach and you liked the characters, the filler episodes are great because it gives, cause it crosses like the, the, the seratay again, the baritone. It crosses the seratay with the human world.

Ice Bear (1:28:12)
So just skip them.

Grizz (1:28:32)
So characters that shouldn't interact, the filler episodes make them interact. So like, if you like the characters, the filler episodes are the filler, it's not a filler episodes, filler seasons. That's the thing that the way they did, they did different seasons. And then like when they, when they caught up to the manga, they did a filler season. So they did a whole 26 episodes of like a filler arc. So it's a whole arc towards beginning and premise story with characters that probably shouldn't, you know.

Ice Bear (1:28:49)
Hmm.

Grizz (1:29:02)
interact. But like, they're still they're not terrible. They're still good. They're still great. But the the annoying part is that like in the main story, you're like, at a cliffhanger, we're like, oh, shit, shit's about to fucking pop off filler arc. And you're like, oh, fuck. You know what I mean? So like, that's bleachers Achilles heel. But if you skip all the filler stuff, especially now since it's been out, like, it's hard to fucking beat it. I don't think there's a better shonen to be honest.

Ice Bear (1:29:16)
That would be upsetting.

High praise. Speaking of praise, what's your second beer working with?

Grizz (1:29:35)
deserves every part of it.

So, evil, Knievel.

As much as I love your jumps and as much as I love how you inspired the glorious movie hot rod who Look I fucking love that movie. I showed the tiger that movie because she hasn't watched a lot of movies and it's the whole thing

She had some chuckles and some giggles, but I don't think she liked it as much as I liked it or like how much as I sold it. So that was a little sad, but I fucking love that movie. I remember being in like middle high school. I remember being in high school and that movie came out and I was going to go to the movies with my mom and me and my brother wanted to watch different movies. My vote was for hot rod. His was for something else. And so we flipped the coin and we got hot rod.

We went to go watch Hot Rod in the middle of the day and we were the only three people in the theater at the Alamo Drafthouse.

So like, was fucking, no, no, no, we weren't the only, there was like us and then like two other people, like a couple and me and whoever that fucking that guy was, we're cracking the fuck up at this movie. Like that movie is absolutely amazing. I love every bit of it. Evil Knievel inspired it. It's fucking amazing. so as far as I'm concerned, Evil Knievel is the goat.

That aside this beer.

Ice Bear (1:31:11)
no.

Grizz (1:31:19)
Good to be, good to be. I don't hate it by any means. It's an easy to drink 9%. I'm not in love with it. I'm never going to buy it again in the sense of like, I'm going to see them like, fuck yeah. I need this. But like I bought a four pack of these for this and I'm going to be perfectly fine and happy finishing the other three. Like it's, it's a good beer. It's a solid beer. If you like.

Ice Bear (1:31:32)
Mm-hmm.

Gotcha.

Good.

Grizz (1:31:47)
more on the bitter side of like imperial this isn't very okay this is a very easy to drink imperial so if you like imperials this is a fucking solid one for a nine percent easy to drink this was easier to drink than the seven percent el chingon and bar none so b teetering on b plus i'm gonna give it a b though because i judge them hard but evil knievel

Ice Bear (1:32:05)
nice

Grizz (1:32:16)
Solid B. If you were to argue with me that you think it should be a B plus, I will accept your argument. Hardly.

Ice Bear (1:32:26)
Very good. I stand by, I have not changed my mind. This one is just a quality B minus B range. Let's go B minus. It was good, not upset with it. Mousetrap was a little bit better. So let's go B plus on Mousetrap. So they're both enjoyable. It's two good beers today. So no complaints on my end.

Grizz (1:32:49)
So you guys, so

you said a B and a B plus?

Ice Bear (1:32:54)
Let's give the instigator a B. Like the art alone is going to bump it from a B minus to a B. Yeah. So B and B plus.

Grizz (1:33:06)
And so I got a C minus and a B. So yeah.

Ice Bear (1:33:10)
So

it's kind of the, you know, like the chill guy. It's the chill guy version of beer this week. Yeah.

Grizz (1:33:17)
I love that meme. But yes,

it's good thing. I think it's a good thing. got, you know, we're getting better. That's the biggest thing.

Ice Bear (1:33:21)
Alright.

We're getting better, guys.

Grizz (1:33:29)
So going from there, it's been real. Wait, do I have any closing statements?

Ice Bear (1:33:35)
I think it should just be a reverse countdown. It should be a one, two, skibbity dibbity doo and just cut it.

Grizz (1:33:43)
Wait, say that again.

Ice Bear (1:33:45)
A one, a two, a skibbity-dibbity-doo.
